First president to be assasinated. Considered to be the best U.S. President among scholars.President Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth on Good Friday, April 14, 1865 at Ford's theater. Among Lincoln's many accomplishments he made the
Emancipation Proclamation, to give freedom to slaves. Because of Lincolns anti slavery the Republicans had favor among African Americans and would have more supporters until FDR's New Deal plan. Lincoln grew his beard as a campaign strategy.

Lincoln was a very important president to our nation. The reason he is so well known was because of the issue he continued to fight, which was slavery. Slavery was such a debatable topic that tore the country apart. Even when the country was being torn apart Lincoln stayed strong until the end. Lincoln did what he thought was best for the country. He tried to satisfy both sides. During the Civil War he fought to save the Union, not abolish slavery. He tried to satisfy both sides, but after he realized that it would be impossible to reastablish the Union with the South still practicing slavery, he had to fight to abolish it. When the war ended he was gracious to those of the South. He could have been a lot harsher, but he was kind. This just shows how great this president was, and how he affected the people of his time and the people of today.
